Icon and Message Configuration
This document provides a comprehensive guide to configuring icons and messages within the FLEX system. Icon and Message Configuration allows users to customize visual indicators and text messages that appear on a member’s account in Transaction Entry, enhancing clarity and providing quick access to important member information.
1. Accessing Icon and Message Configuration
To access the Icon and Message Configuration screen:
- Navigate to the FLEX Main Menu.
- Expand System Administration.
- Expand General Configuration.
- Select Icon and Message Configuration.
2. Overview of the Configuration Screen
The Icon and Message Configuration screen displays all available icons and messages within the system. From this screen, you can:
- View existing configurations.
- Edit an existing icon or message.
- Add custom icons for specific generic list values.
2.1. Key Fields and Options
The main table on the configuration screen presents the following columns:
- Key: A unique identifier for the icon/message.
- Message: The full message associated with the icon.
- Display Message: Indicates whether the message will be displayed in Transaction Entry.
- Display Image: Indicates whether the icon will be displayed in Transaction Entry.
- Display In Red: If Display Message is checked, this option determines if the message will appear in red.
3. Editing an Existing Icon/Message
To modify an existing icon or message:
- Highlight the desired icon/message entry in the list.
- Click the Edit button.
This action will open a detailed configuration panel with the following options:
3.1. Options Section
- Display Icon:
- Purpose: Controls whether the configured icon is visible on the member’s account in Transaction Entry.
- Action: Check this box to display the icon; uncheck to hide it.
- Display Message:
- Purpose: Controls whether the configured message is visible on the member’s account in Transaction Entry.
- Action: Check this box to display the message; uncheck to hide it.
- Display In Red:
- Purpose: Applies a red color to the displayed message.
- Prerequisite: Display Message must be checked for this option to take effect.
- Action: Check this box to display the message in red.
- Display When Account Closed:
- Purpose: Determines if the icon and message should remain visible even when the associated account is closed.
- Action: Check this box to display the icon and message for closed accounts.
3.2. Customization and Defaults
- Edit Custom:
- Select Icon:
- Purpose: Allows selection of a pre-defined icon or import of a custom icon.
- Action: Click this button to open the icon selection dialog.
- Note: Exercise caution regarding copyrights when choosing images for custom icons.
- 10 Character Message:
- Purpose: Defines a short message for the icon, limited to 10 characters.
- Action: Enter the desired message in this field.
- 20 Character Message:
- Purpose: Defines a longer message for the icon, limited to 20 characters.
- Action: Enter the desired message in this field.
- Select Icon:
- Reset:
- Purpose: Reverts the icon and messages back to their default settings.
- Action: Click this button to restore defaults.
- Defaults Section:
- This section provides a reference, displaying the Default Icon, Default 10 Character Message, and Default 20 Character Message for the selected entry.
3.3. Saving Changes
- Save: Click this button to apply all modifications made to the icon and message configuration.
- Cancel: Click this button to discard any unsaved changes and return to the previous screen.
4. Adding Generic List Icons
Custom icons can be added for specific values defined in the Generic List Configuration. This allows for highly granular visual indicators based on custom list data.
- Process: The process for adding a generic list icon involves configuring its display properties and associating it with a specific generic list value.
- Example: As shown in the documentation, a “Generic List Risk Level” with a “Value HIGH – HIGH RISK” can have a custom icon and message.
