This document provides technical information and user guidance for the eAlerts module within the Flex Internet Banking system.

1. Introduction to eAlerts

eAlerts is an optional module within the Flex Internet Banking system that enables members to receive automated email notifications regarding specific account activity.

1.1 Key Features

  • Customizable Notifications: Users can define specific criteria for alerts, such as balance thresholds, check clearing, or deposit notifications.
  • Multiple Delivery Addresses: Alerts can be sent to multiple email addresses, including email-to-text bridged addresses supported by mobile carriers.
  • Real-time Updates: Provides timely information on account changes.

2. Managing Email Addresses for eAlerts

Before setting up eAlerts, users must manage their email addresses within the Flex system.

2.1 Accessing Email Settings

  1. Log in to Internet Banking.
  2. Navigate to Settings.
  3. Click on Edit Email under “Account Settings”.

2.2 Email Settings Overview

  • The “Email Settings” page displays existing email addresses configured for the account.
  • Each email address will show which services (e.g., E-Alerts, Statements) it is associated with.

2.3 Actions on Existing Email Addresses

  • Edit: Click EDIT next to an email address to modify its details or associated services.
  • Delete: Click DELETE next to an email address to remove it from the system.

2.4 Adding a New Email Address

  1. On the “Email Settings” page, click the + icon (or “Add Email” button).
  2. Enter the Email address in the designated field.
  3. Under “ACCT **** Settings”, select the checkboxes for the services you wish to associate with this email address, such as:
    • Statements
    • Notices
    • Credit card
    • E-Alerts
  4. Security Contact Setting (Optional):
    • To use this email as a security contact for password resets and secure authentication, check the Use as security contact box.
    • If selected, enter a Security Contact Label (e.g., “Personal Email”, “Work Email”). This label will be used for selection during authentication instead of the full email address.
  5. Save the changes.

3. Managing eAlerts

Users can create, edit, or delete eAlerts through the Internet Banking interface.

3.1 Accessing eAlerts Manager

  1. Log in to Internet Banking.
  2. Navigate to Services.
  3. Click on EALERTS.

3.2 eAlerts Manager Overview

  • The “eAlerts Manager” page lists all existing eAlerts configured for the account.
  • Each alert entry displays:
    • Suffix: The account suffix the alert monitors.
    • Type: The type of account activity being monitored (e.g., Current balance, Check number).
    • Comparison: The comparison logic applied (e.g., Equal to, Greater than).
    • Email: The email address where the alert is sent.

3.3 Actions on Existing eAlerts

  • Edit: Select an existing alert and click Edit to modify its parameters.
  • Delete: Select an existing alert and click Delete to remove it.

3.4 Creating a New eAlert

  1. On the “eAlerts Manager” page, click the NEW EALERT button.
  2. The “Create EAlert” form will appear with the following fields:
    • Suffix:
      • Purpose: Specifies the account suffix the system will monitor for the alert.
      • Selection: Choose the relevant account suffix from the dropdown list (e.g., “10 REWARD CHECKING”).
    • Alert type:
      • Purpose: Defines the specific account activity that triggers the alert.
      • Available Options:
        • Current Balance
        • Available Balance
        • Deposit
        • Loan Payment
        • Withdrawal
        • Advance
        • Check Number
    • Comparison type:
      • Purpose: Determines the comparison logic applied to the selected “Alert type” and “Compare value”.
      • Available Options:
        • All/Any (typically used for changes, not specific values)
        • Equal to
        • Greater than or equal to
        • Less than or equal to
    • Compare value:
      • Purpose: A numeric value used in conjunction with the “Alert type” and “Comparison type”.
      • Format: Can be a dollar amount, check number, or other relevant numeric value depending on the “Alert type”.
    • Email Address:
      • Purpose: Specifies the recipient email address for the alert.
      • Note: If the desired email address is not listed, it must be added first via the “Account Settings” -> “Edit Email” section (see Section 2.4).
      • Text Message Alerts: To receive alerts via text message, enter the phone number followed by the mobile provider’s email domain (e.g., 1234567890@att.net).
    • Format (if available):
      • Purpose: Indicates whether the alert will be sent as a plain text message or a graphical email.
      • Note: Graphical eAlerts require the credit union to provide HTML to FLEX.
    • Language:
      • Purpose: Specifies the language in which the alert will be sent.
      • Selection: Choose the desired language (e.g., “English”).
  3. Review all entered information and save the new eAlert.

4. Example eAlert Scenario

Objective: Receive an alert whenever the current balance changes in a “Reward Checking” account (suffix 10).

Configuration Steps:

  1. Suffix: Select “10 REWARD CHECKING”.
  2. Alert type: Select “Current balance”.
  3. Comparison type: Select “All/Any”.
  4. Language: Select “English”.
  5. Email Address: Select the desired email address for receiving the alert.

5. Example eAlert Received

An example of a received “Current Balance Alert” might appear as follows:

“The current balance of SUFFDESCRIPT on account %%ACCNT%% changed.”

  • SUFFDESCRIPT will be replaced by the actual suffix description.
  • %%ACCNT%% will be replaced by the actual account number.
