This document outlines the procedures for performing a system backup using a Hardware Management Console (HMC) for the Flex system.
Revised: October 7, 2014
1. Estimating Tape Requirements
Before initiating the backup process, it is crucial to determine the number of tapes required.
- Step 1: Access System Status
- Go to a command line.
- Type WRKSYSSTS and press Enter.
- Step 2: Gather System Information
- Locate the “SYSTEM ASP” value (e.g., 13.5 G or 13.5 M) in the top-right portion of the screen and record it.
- Locate the “% SYSTEM ASP USED” percentage (e.g., 67%) and record it.
- Step 3: Calculate Total Data
- Multiply the “SYSTEM ASP” value by the “% SYSTEM ASP USED” percentage.
- Example:
- SYSTEM ASP: 13.5 G
- % OF SYSTEM ASP USED: 67%
- Calculation: 13.5 * 0.67 = 9.04 G
- This calculated value represents the total amount of data that will be backed up.
2. Pre-Backup Preparations
Before running the system backup, ensure the following preparatory steps are completed:
- PC Servers:
- All PC servers must be set to “no service” or powered off.
