FLEX Ten AppMan Updates & Troubleshooting
This technical documentation provides essential information for FLEX users on how to update and troubleshoot the AppMan service within FLEX. AppMan is crucial for the functionality of connected peripherals like Signature Pads, Tab+, Check Scanners, and Recyclers.
1. Accessing Application Manager
The Application Manager is your central hub for monitoring and managing AppMan-controlled applications.
- Navigation Path:
- Click on the Menu icon in FLEX Ten.
- Select System Administration.
- Under FLEX Settings, choose Application Manager.
2. Understanding Application Status Icons
Once in the Application Manager, you will see a list of connected applications, each with an icon indicating its current status:
- Running Green Man Icon (e.g., AppMan, Cash Machine, ImageMan, Signature Capture):
- Indicates that the application is connected and actively running.
- This is the ideal status for these applications.
- Green Check Mark Icon (e.g., Update Man):
- For Update Man, a green check mark always signifies that the app is connected and running.
- For other applications, a green check mark indicates the app is installed and up to date, but not currently running.
- Tip: Hover over the icon to view a detailed status message.
- Arrow Icon (Replacing Running Man):
- Indicates that the application needs an update.
- You will need to initiate the update process for this application.
- No Icon Displayed:
- Signifies that the application has never been installed on the system.
- You will need to install the application.
3. Troubleshooting Common AppMan Issues
3.1. Restarting a Non-Running Application
If an application is installed but not running (indicated by a green check mark for applications other than Update Man):
- From the Application Manager screen, select the non-running application from the list.
- Click the “Start” button located in the right corner of the application’s detail panel.
- Completely close out of FLEX Ten (ensure all FLEX Ten windows are closed).
- Reopen FLEX Ten.
- Expected Outcome: The application should now show the running green man icon, indicating it’s active.
3.2. Reinstalling a Persistent Issue
If restarting the application does not resolve the issue:
- From the Application Manager screen, select the problematic application.
- Click the “Uninstall” button (if available, typically found where “Start” or “Update” would be).
- Reinstall the application from the same screen.
- Completely close out of FLEX Ten.
- Reopen FLEX Ten after the re-installation is complete.
- Return to Application Manager and click “Start” for the reinstalled app.
- Expected Outcome: The application should now be running correctly.
3.3. Updating an Application
If an application needs an update (indicated by an arrow icon):
- From the Application Manager screen, select the application that needs updating.
- Click the “Update” button.
- Expected Outcome: The application will update, and its status icon should reflect the successful update (e.g., running green man if it was running, or green check mark if it’s installed but not running).
3.4. Installing a New Application
If an application has never been installed (indicated by no icon):
- From the Application Manager screen, select the application.
- Click the “Install” option (this option will appear when no icon is present).
- Once installed, the application will show a green check mark.
- Restart FLEX Ten completely.
- After restarting FLEX Ten, the application should show the running green man icon.
4. Important Considerations
- Restart FLEX Ten: Many troubleshooting and update steps require a complete restart of FLEX Ten for changes to take effect.
- System-Coded vs. User-Defined: Be aware that some applications are system-coded and cannot be deleted, only updated or restarted.
- Credit Union Specifics: While this document provides general guidance, specific configurations or unique issues may require further assistance from your FLEX support team.
